The BiotherapyAlternative Medicine Treating C. difficile Infection

By Peter Melamed, L.Ac, RN, Ph.D

This article may be important to you or someone you love and is intended for sufferers seeking help. Clostridium difficile has other names, such as CDF, C. diff, antibiotic-associated colitis; colitis – pseudomembranous; necrotizing colitis. Unfortunately, conventional antibiotic treatment of C. difficile cannot prevent recurrences. This opportunistic infection causes diarrhea and is associated with 30,000 deaths per year in the United States, and these are just official statistics.

Nearly half a million Americans suffer from Clostridium difficile infections in one year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).[1]

Why is C. diff a superbug? It’s really a superbug. So far, the battle between antibiotics and C. difficile has been won by the resistant species of this microbe.

Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a bacterium that causes watery diarrhea, bloody stools, fever, nausea, abdominal pain, or cramps. C. difficile can cause serious intestinal problems such as inflammation of the colon (colitis).

People in good health do not usually get problems with C. difficile. We can usually get Clostridium through food and water. 10 percent of the population has this microbe in their gut without noticeable symptoms. A healthy person has a defense mechanism that protects him or her from this superbug. Doctors and researchers are unanimous that C. difficile occurs mainly after taking broad-spectrum antibiotics and is usually an attack on people with a weakened immune system, such as young children, the elderly, and people after major surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, AIDS, alcoholics, etc. Many of them had C. difficile bacteria in their bodies before taking antibiotics, but they felt fine.

Most experts agree that long-term use of a broad-spectrum antibiotic causes C. diff infection by destroying friendly gut bacteria. These microorganisms are called friendly because “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Friendly gut flora is our best defense against nasty microorganisms like microbes, Candida yeast, and parasites. Dysbiosis is when the friendly gut flora disappears, and an opportunistic infection takes over the gastrointestinal tract (Candida-yeast overgrowth, small intestine bacterial overgrowth; SIBO). There is a lot of information about dysbiosis, which we have covered in our e-book: Healthy Pancreas, Healthy You, and the paper book: Natural Health Before and After Gallbladder Removal.

C. difficile is an opportunistic infection that develops when it has the opportunity to grow. Harmful gut bacteria, Candida-yeast, and parasites wreak havoc on our gut wall, making it vulnerable to C. diff colonization. This superbug does not act alone. There is growing evidence that some other types of opportunistic infections, such as Staphylococci, Klebsiella, Candida- yeast, parasites, etc., also cause symptoms of antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

The relief will be temporary when you simply kill C. difficile with strong broad-spectrum antibiotics or other antimicrobials. From a medical point of view, it is difficult to defeat these bacteria without restoring the body’s natural defense mechanisms. Clostridium difficile infection causes great damage to body systems, so there is no magic bullet for this state. There are several things we can do at the same time that will help solve this problem.

· Restore friendly intestinal flora.

· Bring back the body’s natural defense mechanisms, such as stomach acidity, the antibacterial action of bile and pancreatic juice, and bowel lavage.

· Reduce colonization of C. difficile in the gut.

· Lessen intestinal inflammation and internal toxicity.

· Decreasing damage to the nervous, immune and hormonal systems caused by C. difficile toxins.

· Stop diarrhea.

· Boost immunity.

· Normalize the acid-alkaline balance.

· Improve overall digestion.

· Replenish the deficiency of vital nutrients.

Sorry, but for C. diff, the advice to take probiotics (many of them are low quality) or eat yogurt won’t help. The analogy of the gastrointestinal tract to a garden can help. If a garden is full of weeds, caterpillars, snails, and frogs and full of poisonous chemicals, the soil is depleted and drained; no chance to grow roses and flowers. It takes different ways, hard work, and some time to restore this garden to flourish.

Many times and over the years, we have used this safe, effective, drug-free, alternative, holistic approach. Numerous parts of this unique anti- Clostridium program have been widely used in other countries for hundreds of years. It can reduce diarrhea, pain, abdominal cramps, nausea, bloating, bloody stools, bowel urgency, and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Lab tests may also show positive changes.

Some of these alternative holistic methods are:

1. Whole Body Cleansing with colon hydrotherapy and restoration of friendly intestinal bacteria

2. Herbal Medicine

3. Nutritional Supplementation

4. Healing Food Consultations

5. Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water

6. Acupuncture and more

Diarrhea has been with humans for thousands of years. So, doctors all over the world have saved the lives of their patients using healing foods, herbs, minerals, colon hydrotherapy, etc. For most people, this is understandable, but what about acupuncture? We have seen with our own eyes that a few sessions of acupuncture relieve diarrhea, even in young children.

Drinking healing mineral water sounds strange to ordinary people and medical professionals in the US, but it is common in Europe. The treatment of chronic diarrhea with Karlovy Vary healing mineral water has a long tradition. The first medical book about this water was published in 1522. Since then, many articles, books, and clinical experiences of European doctors have confirmed the healing effect of Karlovy Vary healing mineral water in various digestive disorders, including chronic diarrhea.

Sick people either drink this healing mineral water from a hot spring or drink water made from genuine Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt at home. This healing mineral water cleanses the intestines of waste and toxins, alkalizes bile and pancreatic juice, promotes the growth of beneficial intestinal flora, and relieves diarrhea, gas, bloating, and abdominal cramps. We have written an e-book: Healthy Pancreas, Healthy You, and many articles for individuals and medical professionals discussing this treatment.

The role of hydro colon therapy in the anti-Clostridium healing program can hardly be overestimated. Clean and purified water flushes out colonies of opportunistic pathogens and their toxins, creating an environment for beneficial gut bacteria to thrive.[2] The best result can be achieved by combining hydro colon hydrotherapy with Biotherapy Complete probiotics, Karlovy Vary healing mineral water, and herbal remedies such as Biotherapy Damp Water Formula.

Practitioners of the Biotherapy Clinic will help you choose a therapeutic diet and non-drug nutritional supplements.

C. difficile infection is on the rise every year. Thousands of victims of this horrific infection are using the common ‘find and destroy’ therapeutic approach with strong antibiotics. If this method does not work, it makes sense to consider an alternative program to restore the natural defense mechanism. This works for many people with diarrhea after antibiotics. The goal is to find knowledgeable, licensed healthcare providers. A Biotherapy Alternative Medicine Clinic can help.
