According to legend, the Roman Emperor
and King of Bohemia, Karl IV, found
a hot spring in a narrow wooded valley.
After experiencing the beneficial power

after himself, Karlsbad or Karlovy Vary.
(Vary means "the place of boiling"
in Czech.)
